About Me

My photo
I am a retired teacher and school library media specialist. I work full-time for Surpass Software, work with my husband, Austin, selling real estate in Bartow and Gordon Counties, and volunteer at my church. I have two beautiful and remarkable grand-daughters who own my heart! (and gbaby #3 is due in March) I am also a relatively new quilter. I began taking classes about six years ago and have been in love with quilting ever since.

Class project

This month I am teaching a quilting class for beginners at Sew Sue's Quilt Shop in Calhoun, GA. We have eight wonderful ladies who range in their quilting abilities...from those who are just learning the basics of sewing in general, all the way to those who are accomplished quilters who want to learn new patterns and network with fellow quilters. We are using the English paper piecing technique to make blocks sometimes called "grandmothers flower garden." There are numerous ways to put these blocks together, so I am really looking forward to seeing the various finished projects these creative women will produce. One girl is planning a full size quilt while others are making table runners. I'll post pics along the way. Here are my blocks. I have a plan in mind that will incorporate some applique...can't wait to get a little further along to see if my idea will look like I want it to. Do you ever have a plan in mind and then when you do it...yuck...not what you had in mind at al!

Trudging along

Too bad good intentions don't get you very far. I finished and gave away one baby quilt (forgot to take a pic...always take a photo of every quilt you make...you'll be glad you did), worked some more on hubby's quilt (NO!It is not finished), started another baby quilt and am working on a new project with my Tuesday night girls. We are doing some English paper piecing. The picture below is my husband's lap quilt. It is made with charm squares and a coordinating jelly roll. It goes together very quickly...it is the machine quilting that is taking so long.
